Admissions

Applying for a place at our school

Our admissions are controlled through the HCC admissions system. To apply for a place you need to fill in the county admissions form either on paper or on-line. In the event that a year is oversubscribed the county admissions criteria will apply.

Nursery Admissions until 31st August 2017

The admission process begins in February and the deadline for applications is March. If you are applying outside of this online admissions period please speak to Miss Parker in the school office for assistance.

Further information can be obtained from the Hertfordshire County Council admissions website or from the school office. Visits are welcome from prospective parents, a telephone call to the office (01763 243392) will help with a suitable time.

You are encouraged to apply online – if you do not have access to a computer you can use one at the library or please come to school and we will arrange a time when our technician can support you.

Offers to parents will appear on the online admissions system from April. Parents must accept or decline their place using the online system by the beginning of May.

About a week after this you will be sent a form to request your sessions – we will endeavour to meet your requests. If a session should be over subscribed we will try first to honour nursery sessions to cover parents’ working and childcare needs.

Our admission criteria are the same as the County Education criteria for all Community schools, they are:

Children with a Statement of Special Educational Needs which names the school will be allocated a place in accordance with section 324 of the Education Act 1996. Schools must admit children with an EHC (Education, Health and Care) Plan that names the school.

Parents may state their preference as to which nursery class, school or centre they would like their child to attend in the years leading up to the child’s fourth birthday. However, if there are not enough places available, places will be allocated in the following order of priority:

  1. Children looked after and children who were looked after, but ceased to be so because they were adopted (or became subject to a child arrangements order or a special guardianship order).
  2. A child ‘at risk’ (or the sibling of a child ‘at risk’) who is the subject of an inter-agency child protection plan.
  3. Other applicants where the following criteria are considered to determine priorities:
    1. Children for whom it can be demonstrated that they have a particular medical or social need to go to the school – written evidence must be provided
    2. Children who have a sibling at the school at the time of application, unless the sibling is in the last year of the normal age-range of the school (year 4).
    3. Any other children

Most places will be allocated in accordance with home-school distance.

If your child has a serious medical or social need we need a letter to support this from a doctor, educational specialist or other involved professional, naming our school as the best place for your child.

Nursery Admissions from 1st September 2017

How to apply:

Please fill in an application form and either post it back to school or email it to: nurseryadmissions@icknieldwalk.herts.sch.uk

We will accept applications for a place in our nursery, to start in September 2018 (for children who will turn 4 during the year from Sept 1st 2017) from 1st October 2017 until January 15th 2018 at 10.00 am.

We will acknowledge each application by email. If you have not heard from us within a week of sending it please contact the school office by phoning 01763 243392.

We have the equivalent of sixty 15 hour places.

If we are oversubscribed our criteria will give preference to children in this order:

  1. Children with an Education and Health Care Plan that names the school.
  2. Children of staff members at the school.
  3. Siblings of children in the main school, including those leaving at year 4 and who will no longer be in the school in the next academic year.
  4. Children who are looked after and who were children who were looked after, but ceased to be so because they were adopted (or became subject to a children arrangement order or a special guardianship order).
  5. Children who are ‘at risk’ (or the sibling of a child ‘at risk’) who is the subject of an inter-agency child protection plan.
  6. Distance from nursery to home address using Google Maps. We will use post code to post code and the walking route.
  7. If there is a tie break for the last place then we will use a ballot.

You will receive your offer letter at the beginning of February 2018.

You will then have until 19th February to accept the place or reject it.

If you are unsuccessful we will keep a waiting list open and will contact you if a space becomes available.

If you are applying outside of our admissions period please speak to Miss Parker in the school office for assistance.

Please note a place at Icknield Walk Nursery School does not guarantee a place in the main school. You need to re-apply through the Hertfordshire County Admissions system for a place in reception class.
