Year 2 have been learning about people and places in their own locality and explore the local history. We went to visit the Royston Cave and King James I home. The children also used Google maps to plan their route, using directional language and compass directions.
Our first stop was the Royston Cave. We went underground and looked at all the different carvings that were there. The tour guide asked us to think about who the carvings might be. We found that the carvings are mostly people of the Bible.
The second stop was King James I House. We already know that he grew fond of Royston due to its greenery, so it was very interesting to see where he decided to build his Royston home. We sat and we sketched what was left of his house.
As part of our science topic, Year 2 are learning all about animals and their habitats. During our science lessons we went into our school environments and search the habitats and microhabitats for different animals and minibeasts. We found frogs in the pond habitat and centipedes in the microhabitats!
Lark Class really enjoyed taking part in the football festival at School, kindly organised by Royston Town Football Club! It was a fantastic opportunity to practise and perfect our skills. As part of the morning the children took part in a mini match, target practice and dribbling activities. It was a morning full of fun!
In PE lessons, Year 2 have been learning a variation of traditional dances to traditional music. The children have really enjoyed performing these dances, and to finish, creating their own group routine.
Year 2 have been doing tennis on Friday’s with a professional Tennis Sports Coach. The children have enjoyed the various games and activities to develop their tennis skills.
