Achievement – Celebration – Teamwork

AGreat Start to Year 3

Year 3 September blog.

We started our topic on rocks and soil by going on a rock hunt around the school. We found igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary rocks.

In class, we sketched some rocks and minerals that Mrs Jacklin had brought in and some fossils from Mrs Sherwood.

We did some investigations into different rocks including their durability and permeability.

Mr Taylor headed outside with a spade to get some soil samples. We looked at the surface, topsoil and subsoil and after only about 75cm we reached solid chalk. We took these back into class to examine.

We created some cave drawings of our own in art.

Also this month, Mr Hillier has started guitar lessons with us. After only 10 minutes we were playing along to Stairway to Heaven by Led Zepplin!

As well as tag rugby, we have been covering Mult skills in the hall practising our balancing, throwing and jumping.

An extra treat was taking part in a live poetry lesson with the local poet Simon Mole. He helped us create an imaginary dinosaur based on an everyday object and begin to think of a poem based on it.
