Year 2

Welcome to our Year 2 classes

Our teachers are Mrs Lynn & Mrs Hyde and Miss Brown

In the Autumn Term our topics are Great Fire of London and Theatre Time.

In the Spring Term our topics are Famous People and The Homes of Kings and Queens.

In the Summer Term our topics are Plants and Animals and Where would you prefer to live: Royston or Mexico?

  • World Book Day

Lark Class celebrated in World Book Day with a day full of activities. Everyone brought in their favourite book from home and had to create a headband based on it. We hid our book and designed our headbands with clues so that our friends could guess our favourite book. In the afternoon we were able to share our favourite books with each other. Look at our fantastic headband creations! Can you guess any of our favourite books?

  • Lifecycles and Block Graphs

    Looking at lifecycles

Our science topic this term is animals including humans. Before half term we focused on humans and this half term we are focusing on animals. As part of this topic we are learning about the life cycle of animals and what better way to study this than watching it ourselves! We are carefully watching our caterpillars grow and we are eagerly waiting for them to create their chrysalis, as we know that is the next stage in a butterfly life cycle.

As part of our maths this term we have explored statistics. This week we have looked at how to record information in tables and tally charts as well as how to interpret information from them. At the end of the week, we had a go at creating our own block graphs from our tally charts. We can even tell you what an axis is!

  • Giacometti Sculptures

This half term we are focusing on the interesting sculptures by Giacometti. We have been inspired by his work to create our own sculptures out of tinfoil. This was incredibly tricky as we had to make sure that we didn’t pinch and squeeze our tinfoil too hard, else we would lose the shape.

Look at the incredible results after careful sculpting from Lark class!

  • Hey Ewe

  • Speed stacking

Year 2 enjoyed having Royston Town Football Club representatives come in to teach them some speedy cup stacking skills. After a quick practice, everyone was challenged to stack 3 cups, 6 cups and then 12 cups as quickly as they could! It was fantastic to see how quickly everyone tried to perfect their new skill.

  • Football Festival

Year 2 really enjoyed taking part in the football festival hosted by King James Academy, it was a fantastic opportunity to practise and perfect our skills. As part of the morning the children had to complete a range of football activities including shooting, dribbling, and even competing in a mini match!

  • Welcome to Year 2

Year 2 have had a very busy, but enjoyable first few weeks in School.

The children have been very lucky to have some golf lessons; learning new skills on how to use a golf club to putt a ball and chip shots.

The children have also started hockey during their PE lessons. We have mainly focused on dribbling a ball with control so far.

Last Friday, Year 2 had a drama workshop on The Great Fire of London. They thoroughly enjoyed going back in time  in a time machine to 1666 where we experienced the events of the fire, doing various activities. We acted out how the fire spread, how it stopped and how the people of London were feeling.
We really enjoyed brining the Great Fire of London to life!
The children also enjoyed sharing what they knew so far and learning some new facts.
