Our Nursery

Nursery – an overview

Our nursery is made of 2 classes – Cygnets and Ducklings and together we have lots of fun learning through our play. With a wide range of toys and resources, the children can explore and extend upon their own knowledge and experiences. Imaginative play allows the children to take on roles to explore that they already know, and our always popular role play area allows children to do this. Our library holds an extensive range of books and is a cosy place where children can retell stories using puppets and soft toys or share books with a friend or adult. The children are often heard using mathematical language throughout the nursery classroom and outside areas, but our number and shape resources allow the children hands on experiences with a variety of natural and manipulative resources. Our large carpet space is where you will find lots of different construction and small world resources, giving children the opportunity to work together or by themselves to create amazing models whilst talking about sizing and shapes. It is on the large carpet where we all gather during the day to sing songs, share stories, and learn together. In our creative area, children can be found using an array of different resources to support our little artists, from cutting and sticking to painting on both small and large scales. A selection of writing resources such as pencils, pens, crayons, post it notes and notebooks, help the children to begin their writing journey. For our budding musicians, our music area is always available with a large collection of musical instruments for the children to explore. Our song puppets and song cards mean that every child gets to be the lead singer in the band.

Play and learning are not just for inside the nursery classroom, our extensive outside areas mean that children can carry on exploring and learning wherever they are in nursery. Our gardens offer all weather all year-round play. Our back garden has a large track area which is perfect for the children to develop their gross motor skills on our range of bikes and cars. You will also find our large outdoor sand pit and water tray to help children explore texture and measurements as well as sensory development. Our front garden has a more natural feel to it, with our gardening area full of flowers and vegetables looked after by our little gardeners. The Mud Camp is always a popular place to visit, with the children enjoying creating mud pies for their friends as they sit round the ‘fire’ and chat.

Our nursery team is made up of our teacher Miss Pinner and nursery nurse Miss Hills, who are supported by a team of enthusiastic early years practitioners.
